A Legacy of Craftsmanship, Passed Down Through FOUR Generations
Our founder, Jeff Swanson, began his career at just 16 years old in the summer of 1992 at Maccarthy Tile Company (California C-54 License #553704), a third-generation family business that became both his training ground and a second home. What began as a summer job soon developed into a lifelong passion for the craft, built on the values of integrity, precision, and pride in workmanship.
Jeff's foundation in the tile trade traces back through four generations of skilled craftsmen, beginning with Earl Eddy Tile. Through a tradition of hands-on mentorship, knowledge and techniques were passed from one generation of tile setters to the next, eventually reaching Jeff through the craftsmen who trained him. This apprenticeship instilled a deep appreciation for traditional installation methods, meticulous attention to detail, and the belief that true craftsmanship is achieved one tile at a time.
In 2001, Jeff became a partner at Maccarthy Tile (California C-54 License #791370). In 2006, he founded Shoreline Stone & Ceramics (California C-54 License #873846), carrying forward the principles of traditional tile craftsmanship while embracing modern installation techniques, advanced materials, and evolving industry standards.
Throughout his career, Jeff's work has taken him from luxury residences and yachts to religious temples, boutique commercial spaces, and distinctive custom projects as far away as Bora Bora. Each installation reflects decades of experience, technical expertise, and a lasting respect for the craftsmen who passed their knowledge down to him.
At Shoreline Stone & Ceramics, tile setting is more than a trade. It is a tradition of craftsmanship, mentorship, and pride in workmanship, passed from one generation of skilled artisans to the next.
